FACT SHEET

The Cardinal Joint Fire District is Canfield's Fire Department serving the Residents and Businesses of both the City of Canfield and Canfield Township.

  • By the Community passing Levies
  • By acquiring grants: federal, state or local.
  • By private contracts, i.e., Canfield Fair, Dog Show, all Fireworks


CJFD requested funds from the City and Township from their CARES ACT distribution, however it only received $28,500 from the Township.


  • The Insurance Services Office (ISO) rates how well a Fire Department is able to serve the community.
  • It assigns a score between 1 and 10, the lower the number the better the score.
  • Lower ISO scores can decrease home insurance reates, and conversely high ratings can increase insurance rates.
  • Cardinal Joint Fire District's current rating is:
  •         -City rating is a 3
  •         -Township where fire hydrants are located is a 3, however non-hydrant
  •          areas are a 5.


  • Emergency Communication Systems
  • Fire Station Location and Personnel: number covering stations, capabilities, trainign, training, equipment, etc.
  • Water Supply
  • Community Fire Prevention Education


The District has 3 strategically-located Fire Stations:

  • Station 1 - 104 Lisbon St., connected to Canfield City Hall
  • Station 2 - 7075 Herbert Road - also houses District's Business Office
  • Station 3 - 5007 Messerly Road - next to the Twp's Public Works Dept.


  • Each Station has 1 Fire Engine, for a total of 3
  • Stations 1 and 3 each have a Ladder Truck, for a total of 2
  • Stations 1 and 2 each have a Tanker Truck for hauling water, for a total of 2
  • Station 3 houses 1 Reserve Engine
  • Stations 2 and 3 each have 1 Ambulance
  • Station 1 has 2 Ambulances (the 2nd one is a backup when the other 3 are on calls.)


  • The Lucas Device, an automatic CPR Machine
  • Video laryngoscopes
  • LP15 monitors which transmit EKGs to the Hospital
  • Waveform capnography, continuous measurement of CO2
  • EZ IO drill for emergency vascular access
  • Stryker Power Cot to lift and load patients into the ambulance


According to the Code of Regulations of the Cardinal Joint Fire District, Ariticle III Trustees:

  1. One Trusteeship shall be designated the "City of "Canfield Council Member Seat," currently filled by John Morvay
  2. One Trusteeship shall be designated the "Township Trustee Seat," currently filled by Joe Paloski
  3. One Trusteeship shall be designated "City of Canfield Resident Seat," currently filled by Rich Russo, former Youngstown City Fire Battalion Chief
  4. One Trusteeship shall be designated "Canfield Township Appointed Seat," currently filled by Nikunj Patel
  5. One Trusteeship shall be designated the "At Large Seat," currently filled by Greg Bestic
